Field Trip: Deer Creek in El Dorado County

Registration is NOT required for this trip.

Field Trip Leader:  Chris Conard

The area along Deer Creek includes oak woodlands and open grasslands, affording a variety of habitats for summer visitors and resident species. We’ll follow the Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad tracks which have become a rails-to-trails corridor. We’ll look and listen for local breeding species, including Ash-throated Flycatchers, Yellow-breasted Chats, Black-headed Grosbeaks, Bullock’s Orioles, Western Bluebirds, and Rufous-crowned Sparrows. The ties of the abandoned tracks can be a bit uneven, but we’ll take it slowly, covering two to three miles, round trip. It may be cool early, but it will likely be warm by the end of the walk. Bring water and snacks. Mosquitoes may be present.

Meeting Location: Meet at the south side of the Bella Bru parking lot in the Raley’s shopping center in El Dorado Hills.

Directions: From Hwy 50 east take Exit #30B; turn right on El Dorado Hills Blvd and go north under the freeway to the shopping center on your right. We will leave promptly at 7am.
