Field Trip: Crystal Basin

Registration is NOT required for this trip.

Field Trip Leader:  Dan Williams

Join Dan for a full day of early summer Sierra Nevada birding! We will start out along Ice House Road, stopping and birding wherever there has been the most activity of late. Then, we will park near the visitor center and explore the various habitats near Silver Creek. Some birds we may see include Mountain Quail, Common Nighthawk, Vaux’s Swift, Western Tanager, and Townsend’s Solitaire…and there are usually Green-tailed Towhees aplenty! There is also always the slim chance of seeing an American Goshawk on this trip.

Be prepared for moderate hiking with slight elevation gain for approximately 2 to 3 miles roundtrip. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch.

Meeting Location: Meet Dan at 8:00 AM at the south side of the Bella Bru parking lot in the Raley’s shopping center in El Dorado Hills.

Directions: From Hwy 50 east take Exit #30B; turn right on El Dorado Hills Blvd and go north under the freeway to the shopping center on the right. We will return by 4:00 PM.
