This trip will focus on birding by ear skills and best practices with the Merlin Sound app in good habitat. We’ll check out the trails, river, and trees of Gristmill for the calls of wintering sparrows, kinglets and thrush, year-round birds like woodpeckers, towhees, wrens, and whatever else we can detect.

Meeting Location: Meet Nancy in the parking area by the entrance. Heavy rain cancels.

Directions: From Hwy 50, go north on Bradshaw Road. Turn left on Folsom Blvd, then right onto Butterfield Way. Turn right on Linda Rio Drive and right again on Mira Del Rio Drive. In about 50 yards, turn left into the Grist Mill Recreation Area.
