Field Trip: Lynch Canyon, Solano County

Registration is NOT required for this field trip.

Meeting times are 8:30AM at the Davis Park and Ride or 9:30AM at Lynch Canyon.

Field Trip Leader: Maureen Geiger

This beautiful, 1,039-acre park just off I-80 in Solano County consists of rolling hills with stands of native oak, buckeye and bay trees, small riparian corridors and panoramic vistas. Join Maureen to look for summer swallows, bluebirds and other songbirds, as well as resident harriers, hawks, woodpeckers and quail, and ducks and shorebirds at the reservoir. Golden Eagles nest in the upper reaches of the Canyon and are often seen. This trip involves walking 2-3 miles on an easy trail and will end mid-day, so bring snacks and liquids. Please note: this area is often much colder, wetter, foggier and windier than Sacramento, so dressing in layers is recommended.

Meeting Location 1: Meet Maureen at 8:30 AM at the Davis Park and Ride on Mace Boulevard. Please note that the traffic on the Causeway from Sacramento can be very, very slow.

From Sacramento take I-80 west towards Davis to Mace Blvd., Exit #75; turn right (north) and then right again at the signal light to the Park & Ride lot a short distance beyond Ikeda's Market. Meet on the south side of the parking lot in the row nearest the big round water tank.

Meeting Location 2: Alternatively, meet at Lynch Canyon by 9:30 AM. From Sacramento take I-80 West. After Fairfield, take Exit 39A, Red Top Road. Turn left, go under the overpass, take the second right onto McGary Road and follow for 1.8 miles (parallels I-80). Turn right on Lynch Road and enter through the gate. There is a $5 parking fee.
