Winter Hiking along the North Fork

This is a Folsom Lake State Recreation Area and Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park event. Registration is required.

Come learn about the plants, animals, and geology of the trails along the North Fork of the American River.  This will be a 4 mile hike, out-and-back, so please be ready and able to hike the full distance of moderate level difficulty trail.  We will stop frequently to make observations and have discussions.  The trail will be somewhat uneven, with unpaved dirt and sand with some elevation changes.  It’s mostly shady and will likely be cool.  The weather in December can change quickly, so please check the forecast the morning of and dress appropriately.

There will be no potable water along the trail.  Please bring at least one quart of water.  For a sunny day, a hat and sunscreen is recommended.  Remember to bring your camera and binoculars to view the nature along the way.  We have loanable binoculars if you want to borrow a set.  Bring your excitement to learn and join us on this cool morning to discuss the nature and geology of this region!
