This is a Young Birders Club field trip. Participation is limited to members of the Sacramento Valley Young Birders Club. Registration is through the young birders club Slack. Please go to www.sacramentoaudubon.org/young-birders-club to become a member.
Join us for a morning of birding in a thick deciduous woodland surrounding a tranquil creek. We will be looking for newly arrived neotropical migrants that favor the valley’s oaks, willows, cottonwoods, and other native woodland plants. Possible species include Western Tanager, Western Kingbird, Western Flycatcher, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Western Wood-Pewee, Wilson’s Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Townsend’s Warbler, Bullock’s and Hooded Oriole, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Swainson’s Hawk, and more! During migration season there is a heightened chance of rarities, especially at a spot with quality habitat, for birds blown off course. Past spring migrations at Putah Creek have turned up Summer Tanager, Pacific Wren, Northern Parula, American Redstart, Gray Flycatcher, and other surprises. We will be meeting at the Putah Creek parking lot at (38.5274635, -121.8048714). Depending on late rainfall there is a chance the trail may be muddy, so where appropriate shoes. We recommend packing snacks, water, sunscreen and a hat. There will be no restrooms.
