Young Birders Club Field Trip: Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

Field Trip Leader: Mackenzie Hollander, sacaudubonyoungbirders@gmail.com
Supervisor: Kevin Hollander

This is a Young Birders Club field trip. Participation is limited to members of the Sacramento Valley Young Birders Club. Registration is through the young birders club Slack. Please go to www.sacramentoaudubon.org/young-birders-club to become a member.

At this wetland and grassland preserve, featuring accessible boardwalks over marsh ponds, we will be waiting patiently to see the elusive Sora and Virginia Rails forage outside of the reeds where they hide. We will also keep our eye out for Common Yellowthroat, Savannah Sparrow, Wilson’s Snipe, and other marshland birds. In the bigger wetlands adjacent to the pond, we will look for Northern Shoveler, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Northern Harrier, and more. The surrounding grasslands give us a chance of seeing White-tailed Kite, American Kestrel, Red-shouldered Hawk, and even Horned Lark.

Restrooms are available in the parking lot. We recommend packing snacks!

Directions and confirmation of exact meeting location and time will be provided upon registration.
