Young Birders Club Field Trip: Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area

Field Trip Leader: Mackenzie Hollender, sacaudubonyoungbirders@gmail.com
Supervisor: Kevin Hollender

This is a Young Birders Club field trip. Participation is limited to members of the Sacramento Valley Young Birders Club. Registration is through the young birders club Slack. Please go to www.sacramentoaudubon.org/young-birders-club to become a member.

Come out to explore one of the most popular wetland preserves in the valley established by the Yolo Basin Foundation, and explore a variety of habitats, including seasonal wetlands, permanent wetlands, grasslands, willow woodlots, sloughs, and more! Out of all Yolo County birding hotspots, the Yolo Bypass has hosted the greatest variety of birds, both expected and unexpected. We will be looking for late migrants and our summer resident passerines in the willow woodlots, including Blue Grosbeak, Bullock's Oriole, Yellow Warbler, and more. We will be keeping an eye out in the grasslands for Swainson's Hawk and Horned Lark. We also expect to see White Faced Ibis, American Bittern, Cliff Swallow, Yellow-headed Blackbird, and there's always a chance of a roosting Great Horned Owl. We will be traveling from parking lot to parking lot and birding the lookouts and the short trails adjacent. It may be very warm so wear appropriate clothing and sunscreen and bring water.
