Evening cleanup at Folsom Lake
Location: Folsom Lake, Beaks Bight and Doton’s Point
Time: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Difficulty Level: 1-2
Join SPIU! after your Mother’s Day activities for a cleanup near the lupine blooming at Folsom Lake! This is a light and easy cleanup near a very popular spot to view the lupine flowers along Beaks Bight and Doton’s Point.
There’s always trash along the water and trails at Folsom Lake due to the amount of folks recreating, so give the area a little Mother’s Day love for Mother Earth and enjoy the lupine bloom before they fade away!
This is a level 1-2 casual all-ages clean up of mostly microtrash and plastic bottles, etc. BYOB (bags/buckets) & G (gloves/grabbers). Extra bags will be available.
Since this will not be a major haul cleanup, trash will be bagged and hauled away (by participants and/or cleanup lead Allyson Seconds), and can also be left in trash receptacles at Folsom Lake Recreation Area.
NOTE: The swaths of blooming lupine have been trampled by wildflower tourists, creating new trails in some cases. Extra precaution will be taken to LEAVE NO TRACE, meaning no trash and no trampling.
Where to park and meet:
Follow the directions in this AllTrails link to the parking lot (we won’t be hiking this trail though). Doton's Point and Blue Pipe Loop on AllTrails
https://www.alltrails.com/.../doton-s-point-and-blue-pipe...
There’s usually a fee to park, but on our latest visit no rangers were present and parking was free. Be prepared to pay though. We’ll meet in the parking lot and head over to the area, a short walk. There will be slight uneven surfaces, wear sturdy shoes.
All volunteer activities are performed at one’s own risk. SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Participation in any of these events is at your own risk. If you participate in any group events promoted by Sacramento Picks It Up!, you agree to hold harmless any organizer, person, and/or organization involved.
SAFETY FIRST! We always recommend good quality gloves and use of a trash picker, plus sturdy shoes. Terrain may be uneven, wet or muddy. Long-sleeves and long pants are advised. If you are on Facebook, you can also check out the GUIDES tab for various helpful tips on gear, safety protocols and 311 requests etc.
Events hosted by Sacramento Picks It Up! have a Difficulty Level assigned to them so you can choose the type of event that is best for your physical abilities and interest level. Difficulty levels are Level 1 (easy, flat terrain); Level 2 (mostly easy terrain); Level 3 (moderate terrain, “off-road” natural areas, some heavy items); Level 4 (difficult terrain, heavy items); Level 5 (very difficult terrain, mostly heavy items).
All events are BYOB (buckets) & G (gloves and grabbers)! Please also bring your own water and snacks. Most event hosts have extra supplies to loan out if anyone needs anything. Prior to participating in any event, we encourage you to stretch, hydrate and make sure you are properly fueled.
… and thank you for volunteering to clean up our city and its waterways.
