Friday, November 18, through Sunday, November 20, 2022
Judged by many as one of the premier birding events in the West, the Central Valley Birding Symposium is hosted by the Central Valley Bird Club. The number of participants usually reaches near complete capacity so plan to register early if you want to attend.
It’s clear that Covid-19 isn’t quite done. In order to keep everyone safe, this year’s symposium will have three days of live in-person field trips around the Central Valley with two shorter days of virtual programs. There will be a mix of familiar itineraries and new specialty trips, with leaders new and old. Depending on your trip point of departure, you may choose to stay nearby or drive from home. In addition, you can decide whether to share a car with others.
All field trips and virtual programs require registration.
All workshops and programs are virtual. This year’s keynote programs include:
Bird Identification Panel: Moderated by Ed Harper
Revealing the Pacific Raptor Flyway – a Forty-Year Retrospective of the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory - Allen Fish
A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds - Scott Weidensaul
Update on Central Valley Bird Conservation and Research Programs - Dan Airola
How to Look at Shorebirds with a focus on Calidris and Tringa - Jon Dunn, with Lara Tseng
